M.A.D. About Adventure – Pioche, Nevada
THIS EVENT IS AN “ALICE IN WONDERLAND” THEME & THE DISTANCES OFFERED ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE.
A DISTANCE FOR EVERYONE, BEGINNER RUNNERS TO ULTRA RUNNERS.
Held at Echo Canyon State Park, the route is a 1.8 mile loop around the reservoir!
MAD HATTER’S 10HR/6HR RUN ~ CONTINUALLY RUN THE 1.8 mi LOOP FOR 10 Hours OR 6 Hours. How many miles can you get logged before time runs out!
WHITE RABBIT’S CLOCK COUNTDOWN RUN ~ RUN 1.8 mi LOOP CONTINUALLY EVERY 30 minutes BUT THE CATCH IS…AT EACH 30 minute START, THE LAPS DECREASE BY A minute UNTIL NOONE CAN RUN WITHIN THE TIME. Example: start this race at 9 am, run the 1.8 mi loop within the 30 minutes, must make it in before 30 min lapse. At 9:30 am next lap, lap #2, starts run lap within 29 minutes, must make it in before 29 min lapse. At 10 am lap #3 starts and run the lap within 28 minutes……and this goes on until noone can run with the time. Can someone run 1.8 miles in 10 minutes?
RED QUEEN’S 21 RUN ~ RUN A 1.8 mi LAP FOR A CARD, LIKE 21 BLACKJACK BUT THE QUEEN OF HEARTS IS WILD AND THE CATCH IS DON’T GET THE QUEEN OF HEARTS. Must run 2 laps minimum!! Example: Run one lap, get a card, run another lap get another card. After the 2 laps look at cards and see how close you are to 21. You may run another lap to get another card if you need to hit. For Example: First card is a 5♥, second card is a 9♣ which equals 14….do you hit or stay? Try hitting and run another 1.8 mi lap, get third card of 6♠, now you have 20….guessing you’d stay! Catch is with Blackjack, if you get the Jack & Ace of Spades, you win! Or some 21 games pick a wild card. The Queen of Hearts is definitely wild in this game but not in a good way, it’s more like Old Maid, don’t get the Q♥, if you do you have wipe out your whole hand and have to start over. You can choose to DNF or run 2 more laps! The winner is who gets 21 and can you beat the dealer aka the race director. Tie breakers will go off of high cards in hand (except Q♥), then off of time ran the 2 laps, & then off of mileage. The minimum amount ran will be 3.6 miles but could increase if you continue to hit.
DEE DUM’S DICE DUO RUN ~ THIS RACE IS THE TWEEDLEDEE & TWEEDLEDUM RUN! IT IS A 2-PERSON TEAM RUN – 1 DICE, 2 RUNNERS, & BLIND TO WHAT THEY WILL RUN. This race I came up with myself, maybe original maybe not but I love idea and the challenge. There is one dice and 2 runners as a team, each runner will take turns rolling the 1 dice to see how many times they will run the 1.8 mi loop on their turn. The dice has 6 sides, 1-6. The team at check-in will roll to see who goes first, Runner 1 & Runner 2 roll. Runner 1 gets a 2 & Runner 2 gets a 5, the highest goes first! Runner 2 then will roll to see how many laps they will be running, again this is at check-in so when the race starts both runners knows who is running first. Runner 2 rolls a 5…runner 2 must run 5 laps equaling 9 miles total on their turn. Once runner comes in from lap 5, runner 1 is up next, they roll to see what they will run….(*the 5 is off the table, runner 1 already rolled it and ran it), runner 1 rolls a 2, they go run 2 laps equaling 3.6 miles. Now it’s runner 1 turn again, they roll a 2, they will have to roll again because 2 & 5 have been ran, so runner 1 rolls a 4…runner 1 runs 4 laps equaling 7.2 miles. Now the 2, 4, 5 are done. Runner 2 rolls and gets a 1, they run one lap equaling 1.8 miles. Runner 1 rolls until they either roll the 3 or 6, only two left. Runner 1 rolls the 3 and runs 3 laps equaling 5.4 miles. Once Runner 1 comes in, runner 2 doesn’t have to roll, they automatically run 6 since it’s the only number left on dice. Runner 2 runs 6 laps equaling 10.8 miles. Once runner 2 completes their 6 laps, they both are finished, their race is done. Runner 1 ran a total of 21.6 miles and Runner 2 ran a total of 16.2 miles. Now, this is all timed and is still a race against other duo teams, it’s just that each team can’t quite strategize their running because you go into blind of how many miles you might run. The minimum amount one runner could run is rolling dice 1,2,3 which equals a total of 10.8 miles and the maximum amount a runner could run is by rolling 4,5,6 equaling a total amount of 37.8 miles, an ultra distance! The strategy would be both runners train for a 50k just in case.
